"Genesis" Project Discription
This design was created for a church series that sought to look deeper into the main charcters that are spoken of in Genesis. When initially concepting the graphic, I felt swayed to develop something that captured a historical feel, such as engravings on ancient stone with the words embedded in the stone. However, it felt very stale and so I decided to lean more to develop a design that incorporated the tree element that most people immediately connect to the book of Genesis. The trick came in trying to link "Portraits" and "Genesis" in a single image.
I had noticed a trend in photogrpahy at the time, showing up on the various creative sites, of double exposure photography. Most double exposure photos I saw were of peoples faces and buildings or foliage. This made my creative process easy, as I tried to create a similar image, however, I used Photoshop instead of photography. It was a long process of layering trees, branches and some birds over a gentlemans face. Once the image felt balanced, I decided to incorporate the design into the lettering as can be seen in the image. The image developed a whimsical feel, which perfectly reflects the book in the Bible, that holds some of the most extraordinary stories ever to happen to mankind.
The soft peach was incorporated as a gentle vignette to hold the image together, bring focus, and create warmth. Leaving an end result that held a strong, clear series title and image that created curiosity in the viewer.
